Back to work with Jewel Thief

Welcome back to work after a rather sunny Easter break.  Now if you are struggling with getting up early and our sat at your desk wondering when the pain of work will end, perhaps you can take inspiration from our friends at Jewel Thief.  They have tracked down a large list of independant designers and put them under one roof.  Our rather macabre favorites are sure to lift the 'back to work' blues, and if not you know what to do.

A creepy Easter with Tina Lilienthal

Tina Lilienthal must have had an interesting Easter this year with these creepy pieces.  Lets hope the tooth fairy doesnt make her a visit after all the chocolate eggs are eaten, as it might be an dead cute, but evil little looking one.

Another Bjorg does it again

Another Norwegian designer that caught our eye of late is Toril Bjorg.  She has been crafting her beautiful pieces of jewellery for years now and keeps knocking out all manners of items.  Her work is so highly sought out now that various museums and gallaries including the Saatchi gallery now stock her.  Nice work if you can get it!

Bjørg tells a Norwegian story

The Kingdom of Norway is famed for its mountains, spectacular fjord coastline and mythical story tales.  So we introduce Bjørg, who hand makes all their accessories to tell a little story from Norwegian's past tales. Not sure what the spine ring represents, but we like it!

Umut Eker VIII pops up in Istanbul

We loved the kebabs in Istanbul. They were so tasty and meaty, nothing like what you find on the UK high street late on a Saturday night.

So we were delighted to find out about Turkish designer Umut Eker VIII (@umutekerVIII).  He creates beautiful and interesting accessories from rings, cuffs and leather bags.  We stumbled across his pop-up store 'Galata' whilst walking the streets. Its open for the next 6 months only, so check it out whilst you can.

Accessory sourcing in the Grand Bazaar

Fresh from our trip to Istanbul, we just had to tell you about the aladdin's cave that is the Grand Bazaar.  You can literally find everything you could ever imagine from beads, gemstones, wiring, leathers, metals, and... fake man bags.  The place is full to the brim of these embellishment and with over 4,000 shops we would highly recommend a visit.

Thanks must go to our friends at Time Out who put together a rather brilliant city tour, including some of the best roof top cocktail bars.  A ginger martini at 360 is a must.

Vertebrae jewellery by David Sandoval

What does your future hold?  Well hopefully its not having your vertebrae ripped out and dipped in silver or gold.  However, if you are David Sandoval then perhaps you wouldnt mind...

David has created these intricate necklaces, rings and brooches which can be joined together to make much longer snake like spine necklaces.  So like a grown up, accessory inspired transformer really!  Anyway, what ever the future holds, lets hope it includes some more pieces of this collection.

Robert Wellington do you fancy some high tea?

Yes Bob, just 'YES'.  Robert Wellington is totally doing it for us just now, with his hand made uni-sex accessories.  From his own mystical brain Robert finds things from all over the globe to create these brilliant pieces available in a number of off-beat  London shops. Now we do wonder what he would do if we invited him round for high tea.   Would he steal a fork and make it into some sort of amazing accessory?  If so, Robert get yourself round and the Cox Cookies and Cupcakes (possibly the best Cupcakes in  London) are on us.

There are no Swedish Fish here Goran Kling

Have you tried Swedish Fish?  They are like the Swedish equivalent of Haribo, but FAT FREE.  Well Maketh-The-Man loves these little bags of joy, but we also found some other Swedish things to love.

Swedish goldsmith Göran Kling's (@gorankling) is inspired by beautiful craftsmanship and cheap knock-offs to create these sexy accessories.  From his new Cut&Paste collection to his big and bold necklaces of past, we are loving his work.  Now we wonder if there are any fish in his next collection?
