Go on, go on, go on Gurhan

During a jewellery event at the Harrods Penthouse, we were introduced to Gurhan (Twitter - @gurhanjewelry).  They make the most exquisite cuff links which are now sold all over the world.  However, what we were most suprised about was that Gurhan originated from Ankara, Turkey. So our love affair for Turkish jewellers goes on, and on.

Make us a train set necklace Inderjeet Sandhu

We first meet Inderjeet Sandhu during London Jewellery week, and since then he has appeared in Indian Vogue as well as many other publications.  He creates eye catching, statement jewellery, sculptured in a way that they feel like mechanical parts.  Hmmm how I wonder what he could do with a Hornby train set.

We welcome Atelier Minyon (soon)

New York jeweller's do excite us, and after our latest visit to the states, and subsequently to Turkey we were delighted to hear about Atelier Minyon (Twitter - @AtelierMinyon).  They are a family company based in Ankara, Turkey, and have now opened a magical Turkish inspired store in New York. Atelier fuses Turkish classical history with a modern wild twist using black diamonds, rubies, sapphires, and emeralds.  Check them out now, as they are coming to the UK soon, and its always good to stay ahead of the pack.

We have found our Mrs. Miyagi with Zoe Harding

Maketh-The-Man went back to jewellery basic's lately and enrolled with the London Jewellery School.  Our mentor for the day was the one and only Zoe Harding.  Zoe has designed for the likes of Vivienne Westwood and created many fabulous orb and skull accessories like the skull galaxy ring above.  She has now gone solo, and is still creating wonderful pieces like the Antler necklace which we want so bad.

Hey Roland Iten where is the dessert?

Roland Iten (Twitter - @rolanditen) creates, develops and produces highly unique mechanical men’s accessories, thus pioneering a new segment in the high end luxury goods industry which it calls Mechanical Luxury for Gentlemen™ OR in English it makes beautiful accessories for fatty's.  Available to buy from Harrods, London, what we love about Roland most is his mechanical belt buckle which can expand at the flick of a switch, and give anyone tucking into a chicken bucket that extra inch in the waist.

The fact that they are also hand finished and combined with precious metals with inlays such as mother-of-pearl, exotic tropical hardwoods and pavé diamonds, is just another reason to love them. Now then where's that bucket fatty.

A female view on mens accessories

So here we have it! Our first female guest post from Style on the Couch, giving a female perspective on the must have male accessories this summer.  So over to you Sarah....

Writing this guest post for Maketh-the-Man, on male accessories for summer, has been a huge challenge for me.  My personal blog focuses largely on female fashion and I think I am the only woman I know who doesn’t have pierced ears (I am still gifted earrings - it is so taken for granted that as a women I must wear them).  I’m the sort of female who has never understood spending thousands on a bag and who has always preferred the perfect little black dress to jewellery;  the exception to this being anything from Tiffanys, of course…!

I recently moved from London to NYC and here in the Big Apple I’m so much more aware of male fashion.  Men in Manhattan appear to be more conscious of their personal style and the messages they send out through their clothing and accessories.  There is greater care taken in one’s appearance and a careful selection of brands that represent personal values, I feel.

Despite somewhat lacking in the accessories gene, I am an aesthetic person.  This means I know what I like when I see it and I have used this to guide me in selecting two items for Maketh-The-Man: my “must have” male accessories, for summer.

The long hot summer nights that lay ahead provide plenty of opportunity for arms and legs to be on display.  I’ve noticed a lot of accessories being worn on the wrist, combinations of watches and bracelets that I simply love to see.  There is something seriously hot and sexy about a man in a simple white tee, a hint of a tan and some masculine bracelets.  What appeals to me are bracelets that are rugged and manly, think leather and metal – but I’ve also seen lots of tribal prints and rope bracelets around NYC recently.

Yves Saint Laurent Double Wrap Bracelet

My second selection also focuses on the wrist.  Ralph Lauren recently unveiled a series of new sporting chronographs, including one created using guilloche work – intricate engraving.  A wristwatch is a hallmark of refinement and the ultimate expression of taste.  A classic timepiece is what maketh-the-man for me, and this Ralph Lauren watch is a new favourite of mine.

Have a wonderful summer, everyone!
