Thomas Sabo Press Day at The Langham Hotel

From its origins of the 80's in Germany, Thomas Sabo has grown to become an international known and loved brand. I was invited down to their latest press day in the grand location of The Langham Hotel, to see the latest offering.

We were greeted with quaint hot scones, cream and jam and a glass of bubbly.  Then the understated bling of the products caught our eye, and we moved over to the men's collection.  Rings, cuff-links, bracelets and watches were on display all with the classic Thomas Sabo markings.  Our favourite piece has got to be the inter-locking chain ring, which reminds us of our own Celtic heritage.

To top off the day, we finished with handmade cupcakes, which were adorned with an actual crystal! Now that's now to do an impressive press day, we have to say.

Ruby Kobo likes a skull

Ruby Kobo is an accessory brand by design duo Yuvi Alpert and Danna Kobo.  It pays homage to ancient mysticism, and a number of their designs as per the cheeky skull design seen above. The designers are constantly sourcing new materials and innovations in design in order to keep the collection evolving, including  ethically sourced deer antler.

Ruby Kobo can count many a celebrity among its fans with Rihanna, Kanye West, and Russell Brand seen wearing items lately.  It can also include myself at Maketh-The-Man now!  Check out their Facebook page for pictures of all their fans, and press cuttings.

Momocreatura is certainly not “Nearly Dead”

These morbid jewellery pieces are from Momocreatura (Twitter - @MomoCreatura).  They are inspired by fairy tales, and the vision of designer Momoko Taura's own fantasy world and her childhood memories. Momocreatura is for people, who dress to express themselves, and who are curious to glance into another world.  Something we at Maketh-The-Man like the sound of. So go forward my lovelies, and accessorize your body!

McLaren has a new driver - Links of London

Links of London (Twitter - @Links_of_London) have teamed up with McLaren to create a collection of men's jewellery and accessories.  Launching in April, Philippe Cogoli; Links  of London's head of design for watches, men's jewellery and accessories, told us that working with McLaren had been an inspiration.  He had worked closely with the  team, even including a visit to their manufacturing plant, to identify elements of the actual F1 car that he could use within this collection.

This culminated in the pieces using brushed metal, matt finishes, interlocking sections of stainless steel, keviar and a patented McLaren screw (an exclusive for Links, as until now it was solely used within McLaren cars).  Jewellery is now firmly in the fast lane!

You've got to have a Pure Brass Neck to wear these

The 'About Section' of Pure Brass Neck's website starts with:

'The workshop of Pure Brass Neck (aka Ellen Wilson) is a place like no other - where dismembered plastic gorillas topple over giraffes without bodies...'

Now this is one of the best openings to a website we have ever seen.  Talk about being inspired to read more!  So we did, and found out that Ellen Wilson creates striking and dramatic pieces of jewellery that don't take themselves, or the owners, too seriously.

A brilliant concept from a truly creative individual from Bonnie Glasgow.  Now I wonder what Ellen would make of our bug bracelets?  Maybe we could create an 'Attack of the giant insects' scene using her Park Life pendants?

Amy Keeper likes it vintage

'Kiss' Bracelet

'When you dream' pendant
'The Dandy' cuff-links

'City Gent' cuff-links

Vintage is a buzz word these days.  Vintage pop up shops, vintage car boot sales, vintage suits.... the list goes on.  Often these 'vintage' items for sale are just second hand rubbish that no-one wanted in the first place, however people have caught on to the vintage trend and re-branded second hand as vintage.  Clever marketing really, so one must tip the hat.

However true vintage pieces are often much harder to come by.  Modern day pieces inspired by vintage elements are event harder, but we think we have found someone that has done just that.  Amy Keeper (Twitter - @AKJewellery) is a jewellery designer inspired by characters from vintage postcards.  Her designs often take a snippet of a story from the bygone times and capture it with a couple of words.  'The kiss' bracelet sums this up beautifully.

A is for Arsenic joins the fight

We love a bit of anarchy at Maketh-The-Man, and so we are happy to present our latest find in the fight against 'the man' with A is for Arsenic (Twitter - @ameliaarsenic).  Run by Amelia every month she releases a new limited edition capsule collection to her fellow followers.  The taxidermy collection has got to be our favourite, especially the cheeky fly detail on the chains.  We salute you Amelia.
